if the beats on the tay would lower there prices abit, then i think it would open the door to more cash strapped bum anglers like my self surely if yous lower your prices yous would get more anglers, wich in return would mean more fish being caught, or am a just talking rubbish

Bringing back the shrimp / prawn seems to be a short sighted reaction to a perceived lack of fish. Why not do something to address this shortage instead, catch and release can only ever help halt or slow the decline, it is not going to improve salmon stocks, more drastic measures are needed for this.
Surely a bit of foresight is needed here, if you look at the catch returns on some Icelandic rivers it is apparent that salmon can indeed make a dramatic recovery, but they need help and measures obviously have to be put in place and adhered to. For an example closer to home look no further than the Clyde and the Kelvin. The Kelvin was a dead river not so long ago due to industrial pollution and salmon have now returned in numbers now that it has been cleaned up. One of the reasons that the Leven is suffering IMO, these fish were running the Leven 10 - 15 years ago.
If we addressed other issues on other systems I'm sure we would see positive results. Are people only complaining about the prawn and the shrimp because they still have decent fishing throughout the season and this affects them directly? That's understandable, personally I care little for what happens on one river, in the long term it's what affects Scottish salmon as a whole that is much more important....

It would appear that the Tay Board regard shrimps and prawns as quite a salmon friendly bait. If I were an angler who fishes on the Dochart I would be expecting to be allowed to fish shrimps and prawns instead of worms. Just think of the good will it would create with the local anglers and the extra income it would generate in the Killin boozer. If the Board are consistent, they should allow this to happen...........aye, right!!
Taking in this whole debate from afar is highly amusing!!

Any comment from any of the beats fishing with the shrimp or prawn on how things are going?
What do the anglers who have taken tickets to fish with these baits do during the other half day when they have to use alternative methods?
Just interested to hear how things are going so far?

Hows it going? Like you I find the whole picture pretty dismal and mystifying. For a board that contains some fairly clued up people there does seem to be a marked lack of commercial ingenuity. Top marks to your goodselves at Scone for resisting involvement in this mad scheme. I just hope they know what they are doing after the experiment ends. regards, Tom.

I've visited the TDSFB website, and cant find anything specific regarding this experiment. Apologies if I've overlooked this - can somone point me in the direction of a formal document that specifies the objectives of the experiment, what measures are being used to assess the outcomes, what a "successful" outcome looks like, the timescales and method for reporting the results to anglers, and then "what happens next?" Cargillion - you seem close to this; could you possibly refer me to the document that covers this or expand on these points yourself?

Does anyone know the days this experiment is being carried out ? as I would like to monitor the daily catches on the days when it is being used.
