No mistaken them Stevie nice fish but wouldn't say they are fresh off the tide, Had a bit experience my self 40 years to be procise. Just had a look in the Seatrout section on the site and there is some cracking fish there strait of the tide. Think they were stump,s fish Some are absolute bars of silver, and not many spots below the lateral line fork tails and the eye level with the mouth so would you say they are a different breed.

if you dont think the first fish in the pic is off the tide then thats your opinion, the scales were falling off in my fingers as the picture shows. is that top picture pullin wool over your eyes because if thats no a bar of silver then i dont know what is. i think they 3 pictures are good examples of sea troot, that "big" one your talking about just is'nt

Sixteen pound sea-trout caught in July this year: at last, this is what double figured sea troot look like!!! take notes skagit I Stevie, have commented what a specimen that is and have caught a few big spotted ones over the years. But some are tartan that have been in the river a while and some very silver that have just come off the tide as you can see in the Seatrout section. Here is a 5 3/4lb Sea Trout from the Dart not many spots nor caught by me so that blows your theory out Stevie. Different strains in each river.

Without seeing a fish close up or at least in more detail, it can be difficult to judge accurately. Especially when in a net and at an angle, so I guess its best left at that, unless another picture is posted of the same fish.

Totally agree with you there kingfisher sometimes it is difficult enough with some fish even when you see them in the flesh. And as I don't like handling them too much when they are being returned it was a quick check. Scale count from the adipose fin to lateral line and the opinion of two experienced Sea Trout anglers that were at hand when the fish was landed that's good enough for me. It was one of many fish for me on the fly this season and had a great time so shall we just leave it at that.
