This seems to be the case. However the large percentage of fish that did stay in the same location had been in the middle-upper region (some 30+ miles from sea). Where as in the lower stretch 84% of the fish moved from the tagging location.
It would appear that the fish in the middle-upper reached had reached their desired location, being so far from sea? And had they not been caught might be descried as residents in this area?

Agreed since these fish were tagged in late Sept/Oct they may already have been at or close to their destination. Same goes for the fish caught on the Ness. However the spring/early summer tagging shows only 16% went to the upper reaches. Whilst, it is thought scientifically, that spring fish are aiming for the upper reaches. Why did only 16% carry on to their original destination....
