Good Evening
I had my first accident on a river today and a combination of over exuberance and being buoyed by just catching a rawner and wanting to find its springer cousin had me swimming in the Tay. I was wading chest deep and put my foot out and there was nothing so lost my balance and legs were pushed up and i was left kicking.
Not the most pleasant experience and after half an minute of kicking franticly i got bank onto the shelf with the aid of my rod. Mightily cold and ive a ruined iphone i had in my wading jacket pocket as i had just text to say id got a fish.
Ill be buying a life preserver this week before any more lines, flies or hooks.

A good investment Scanny it wasn't too long ago that the Tay claimed a life of an angler.

I always use a life preserver and a wading staff if I am going into the river. I will be fishing on Dalguise tomorrow. I hope never to use it but with a f-cked up knee I have to take special care as it can give up and buckle at times!

We use crew saver 275N life jackets we were advised that the 150's were not good enough, the 275 crew saver we use works on pressure so needs to be submerged 4" there for there is a slight delay before they activate. All rods fishing with us must sign a disclaimer before fishing so it is up to them if they use them or not, nobody is alowed in the boat with out a life jacket.

Hi Scanny,
Good to meet you yesterday at Dalmarnock.
I use the englands life vest, and are very good. I've seen them go off a couple of times (not me thankfully) time will tell though!
That part on upper Dalmarnock is called the clam shell, i dipped in to a wee bit last season..
Tight lines for 2010!
cheers Gordon

2 swimmers on newtyle today. the 1st a forum member on here the 2nd due to felling sympathetic towards the said forum member i decided to throw myself in to ;D Martin you should get a medal. After falling in he refused to get changed out of his wet clothes and took 2 of us out for an afternoon in the boat. Service beyond the call of duty I think. It was bloody freezing and I was dry!!

It was nice meeting your too Gordon, a nice day on the water even with the Blizzard and icy wind
This is a strange trend, another two and you too Martin. The Tay is the place to go for a dip.
Joking aside it was freezing and ill have a life preserver on in future. Luckily Christmas had taken its toll on my waist so without adjusting my wading belt it was tight and stopped my waders filling right up.
