I've used Seaguar Ace Hard for 8 seasons now and never had a break or problem.
The mistake most people make is to either buy some other Fluro(all the rest I have tried are really poor) or go by breaking strain rather than diameter. I can't remember exactly but I think for 8lb Maxima diameter you get 13.5lb Seaguar. So now I use 23lb Seaguar where I used to use 15lb maxima as they are the same diameter. Trust me, if you hook a snag, the 15lb maxima will break before the 23lb Seaguar. No special knots are needed either.
Having been a Maxima fan for 20 odd years there were ultimately three reasons I moved on to Seaguar: 1. I lost two very big salmon in Russia in 2001 which broke me after continuously jumping and running for 100yds using Maxima 25lb. My battle hardened fishing colleagues who were regular visitors were all using Seaguar Ace Hard for its strength and abrasion resistance. 2. I fish regularly on a medium sized highland river which can go gin clear in low water and Maxima of all colours stands out in the water, seaguar is virtually invisible. 3. Presentation, it does turn over nicely, its inherent stiffness is only an issue on really small flies, even then the 11lb seaguar is still good.

Well i tried the seagur, and after just 10/15 mins i was a flee down! never hit anything during casts, but was forcing the forward stroke somtimes to make up for my poor timming.
Checked the line after a bit, and it was all fraid and flee gone!.
Although I like the benefits that Flouro gives you, I also went off it for my trout fishing. However I borrowed some on a recent salmon trip up North, think it was 23lbs breaking strain and liked the turn over and of course its ability to be seen less than my usual tarry rope (Maxima).
Therefore I went against my own rule book and bought some 8.8lbs seaguar for my recent trout outing thinking "at last I have found a decent flouro" alas it was not too long before a trout of only about 2lb kindly removed my CDC Buzzer at £1.25 and took it a sight seeing trip around the Loch.
So I am back to square one in the flouro sense. I truly believe that its excellent on a straight leader job without droppers and will keep this spool for that reason, but droppers................................
