i like fluorocarbon because of the stiffness and invisibility but ill use maxima or similar and be quite happy with that and nylon is cheaper

Maxima is reliable and inexpensive, unlike the others.

Maxima Ultragreen for the bulk of fishing I do - it is very reliable
But Fluorocarbon for small stillwater (Rainbows) and Sunk line Salmon in 8, 12 and 23.5lb respectively

When trout fishing I use fluorocarbon for nymphs or to cut the water surface.
Copolymer is great for dry fly fishing as it does’t bring the fly under the water like fluorocarbon does.
For salmon fishing it is always maxima. Although fluorocarbon is arguably stronger, if it becomes even slightly frayed or nicked, it becomes very weak and is prone to snapping with the smallest of fish.

Maxima most of the time, Fluorocarbon when the water is clear. Not sure it makes much of a difference to the fish though.

Had nothing but bad experiences with flouro and now stick to maximia or copolymer.
Likewise, I don't know if there are any advantages using Flouro over any thing else, but stand corrected.

Maxima/Drennan Sub Surface
I first used flourocarbon extensively when it was touted in the fishing press as our saviour about 10 years ago or so. I had nothing but knot slippages and breakages while playing fish or even stuck in hold fasts. I actually lost quite a few good fish because of it.
Not to mention it would become brittle in low water temps. Sunk line fishing for bows in the winter was a no no with this.
So I went back to the 2 nylons that where doing the job before that and I havent had the same problems at all.
I've heard people talk about new wonder knots that make the flourocarbon safe to use but my attitude iit why should I change not only my leaders but my knots as well when the tried and tested before was getting results.. And not to mention it costs twice as much too..
If it aint broke…..

I'm a big fan of Seaguar Fluorocarbon for my leaders. Seaguar is very strong at the knot with any good knot. I like the Uni Knot. Whether it makes any difference over monofilament for Salmon fly leaders - I'm not sure though? For other types of fishing like leader shy Bone Fish it make a noticible difference to hook ups. I wouldn't use anything else if fishing for Bone Fish. Put two sections in water one Fluoro and one Copolymer and watch how the Fluoro becomes nearly invisible. That may convince you of at leasrt some benefit. Had nothing but bad experiences with flouro and now stick to maximia or copolymer. Likewise, I don't know if there are any advantages using Flouro over any thing else, but stand corrected.

Will never use flouro again had so many breaks with the stuff, some of my rods busy playing a fish happily then ping its snapped and that's with not a lot of pressure, now use Greys Copolymer or the fail safe Maxima. And thats not snapping at the knot but half way down the leader on a brand new leader which couldn't of touched bottom, this has happened a good few times.

use Seaguar flurocarbon most of the time, absolutely no issues with it. Have used other flurocarbon in the past and had breakages. Use Maxima when boat fishing though.
