Very nice. An excellent fly fished deep in the spring. A forgotton pattern in many ways. One of the first long-winged patterns. Its evolution is beautifully documented in one of Neil Graesser's books. I always carry a few in the spring - looks the part in 3"+ sizes I do like the body tied 1/2 red; 1/2 yellow - do you prefer the red body, Skippy?

Sloggi what did Graesser use for his wings on the tadpoles? I would check my book but someone hasnt returned mine 'yet'

Hi sloggi, your right it certainly is a forgotton pattern i was surprised their wasnt one in the whole section thats why i put these up.The doubles weighted with an overall length of 3in. You'v got me with the red/yellow body iv never seen one tied like that maybe you could fire one up. Do you know what the original pattern is then ? Iv allways thought it was just the red body. Skippy

Madkeen's picture shows the original Graesser version. I recall fishing a Tadpole tied on a size 8 double on a hot day on the Dee up at Ballater. The fish were just tearing through the water chasing it - one of my most memorable days.
I'll look in his book for the material he uses for the wing.
