I was looking at this rod as a backup as it is in the sale for around £250-£260. There was 2 models available the 14ft 8 med fast and the 14ft 8 spey. Anyone know the difference between the 2 rods?

The 14' 8" UK Spey is a complete dog. Avoid The M/F is a decent rod but I believe the F is the best of the three. If anyone has a UK Spey, apologies

I have a uk spey and find it a truly brilliant rod for both shooting heads and spey lines

Can you tell us why you think this rod is a dog? I'm only interested as I had not long bought the "decent" 14-8 MF rod and if the UK Spey is a dog, how and in what sense. too soft? kf

Having used one for 1/2 day with the other 1/2 day using the M/F - chalk and cheese. The other 14' 8" rods are crisper and ooze class whereas I found the UK Spey too soft for me and I felt the blank lost its power early on in the cast. From the two guys I know from Guideline, the rod wasn't a success - they both say the 13' 7" #8/9 was the best rod in the 3-piece Le Cie range. However, as Doonrod has expressed, most rods have their converts.

I have never fully understood that 'jargon' either. I could be wrong in my description but I would explain it as this. A bendier rod is a soft rod a stiffer rod, for me is a fast rod. I feel a softer rod takes longer to load, therefore slow. I prefer a stiffer rod where it lifts off quicker and there is less of a pause before the forward stroke. I find this a quicker rod. However, I fish with gents who say this is guffaw and say the opposite. I would be most interested for someone with the confidence to put me right.
