Loch Tay is over 14 miles long and has a mean breadth of 3/4 of a mile.It has a maximum depth of 508 feet and an average depth of almost 200 feet and in the words of Sir John Murray, who carried out the extensive bathymetaical survey of the fresh water lochs of Scotland "Loch Tay is one of the largest of the Scottish fresh water lochs, unsupassed in the beauty of its surroundings and well known to anglers on account of its salmon fishings, see Mills & Graessers "The Salmon Rivers Of Scotland" Not that long ago the "Opening Day" for those hardy souls who ventured out on small open boats in search of the ultimate prize in salmon fishing I.E. the opening day springer were in with a real chance of a fish. And so it was Ill allways rue the day i declined an opening day jaunt to Loch Tay only to be surprized by a knock on my door that evening and lo and behold their stood my brother proudly showing me the bigest Salmon id ever seen before or since. It was bang on 30lbs, brought to the gaff in 50min and fell to an 2in Pink Kynock Killer trolled from a small open boat on a freezing january Loch Tay Opening Day. Skippy Attachments:
