When did you start fishing for Salmon?.
I started with river Trout fishing first when I was 9 years old and more or less stuck with that, with the very occasional day out salmon fishing - generally once a year treat. How ever this last couple of years I have been out on average circ of 12 -16 days of which most will have been on the River Nith at the back end.
When did you start Salmon fishing and what was the "trigger" that set you off in the chase for the silver bounty?

Started fishing when I was about 6 years old with a fibre glass rod my dad made and I still have, we used to go to Motherwell boating pond (now Strathclyde park)for perch and roach and the Clyde for trout. The first time salmon fishing was on holiday in Girvan on the Girvan when I was 7.It was all spinning my dad would fish down with a toby and I followed him with a devon or a different colour of toby.We fished there the same week for years and I only got a sea trout at 6lb on a devon and my landed a salmon at 12lb on a toby after losing another 3 on the same afternoon. Those were the days.

I sarted fishing for trout at the age of about eight. I had a few days here and there over the years with my older cousin and my uncle spinning for salmon. I was eighteen before I seriously started fishing for salmon being taught basics in speycasting by one of my tradesmen I was apprenticed under, even though I do not catch many my love and enthusiasm for the sport never wains. Now at the age of forty seven I can see me going until I die.
