Proper fish are starting to get caught on the lower Tyne, mainly in the 8/9lb class but one chap had one 16lb When the river drops off a bit more there should be more sport to come

Reet, heres the crack! I'm going to post on here as often as possible about river conditions/catches/general Tyne news etc.Feel free to join in boys and girls, for those who are a bit shy,pm me and I'll see that the info gets into the domain. Noow then, latest crack; Lower Tyne fishing well, especially NERAC water at Wylam where no less than 11 springers have been landed, thats the south bank opposite WAC watter, who dont seem to be doing so well.Pity that The river itself is still very cold and fish movements above Riding Mill are few and far between(RM being a temp' barrier)however.get your thermometers oot, soon as it rises above 4degC the fish will move up into the system as is the norm 1 (confirmed)fish has been taken at Widehaugh(again NERAC water) and further downstream Bywell have had a few and even the Fed have caught a couple.I'll stick a photo or two up next week Good luck chaps and dont forget to keep me informed of owt interesting,(nosey bassa that I am!!!) Seriously though,I'm trying to make this section an informative and up to date piece of reporting for the good of Tyne anglers everywhere. Cheers boys Tone BTW,my mobile no'is available by PM

Now....famous last words Sadly me cars still fecked so fishing reports shall be sporadic for the minute. However, had a wee wander today and the Old Girl was big-that is to say,the lower river would be deemed unfishable by most Tyne hands,on the TT guage it was about 4ft and seemingly full of chocolate sauce On a higher note, once again the lower river has excelled itself(compared to recent seasons) by literally 100's of %!NERAC again having a grand week(before the rains came)with several pristine fish grassed and a well known chap from the North Bank taking a couple, including a belter of 20lb(unconfirmed to me but hey!!!this guy is one of the lower Tynes premier men and not to be disbelieved)! All in all,a cracking start to the season.Lets hope it continues Latest update(thats me fleeing roond from the hoos for a deek)-----Still big and mucky but by sunday, with no more big rain we should get a good shot all the way to Hexham Tight lines laddies and dont be shy! Cheers chaps Tone

Rivers big again today, got about 4ft in Thats a shame cos it was dropping off nicely yesterday and a bunch of us were going to have a day up near Hexham today.Bugger At least all this water should get the fish upstream and spread out a bit through the system

Still good numbers of fish coming off the lower river, including a 20lber on the devon from Wylam Upstream counts at Riding Mill are still low so the lower river is the place to be at present.

Quick update.Lower beats have a grand stock of salmon and the sea troot are starting to show themselves. With very low water levels very few fish have used the Riding Mill pass(only around 150 in 2 months)although there has been some night time activity during this last week, hopefully ST The river needs a good flood to get things moving upstream,in particular as the water warms up,we dont want to see fish struggling with lack of oxygen as has happened too often in recent years. Be nice if Kielder got its act together and released water when its this low, instead of waiting until theres about 6ft in it Anyway,I've got a slipped disc and may resort to the shrimp anytime soon ;D Tight lines chaps Tone

Well!!What a strange world we live in!Very low water levels and loads of weed/algae etc at the minute Great news for Tyne rods though,,,,....1600 fish through the counter for the first half of june and its getting better(numbers wise)by the day(or rather night!) ;D Almost all of these migrating fish are sea trout.Ignore proper night fishing for these chaps, the waters too coloured, fish early and (especially) late for best results and KEEP THE TACKLE LIGHT!!!5/8lb leaders about 12/15ft long with wee doubles or singles in the 12/16 size range. Then just hang on ;D You dont get this kind of info in the Trout and Salmon boys and girls Good luck and midge nets Tone
