Situated about 9 miles from the sea, the Burn Estate offers excellent fly fishing over 2.5 miles of some of the finest middle Esk fishings in an enchanting setting. The beat is split in two with a bank sharing agreement with the opposite bank. This allows rods to fish each section as double bank, with a 1pm change over. It is important to remember that on “odd” numbered days (1st, 3rd, 5th etc) the fishing begins on the top beat with the fishing beginning on the bottom beat on “even” days.
Having been hugely under-fished in recent years, the Burn Estate offers season long salmon fishing with the North Esk boasting one of the best spring runs in Scotland. The Burn Estate has excellent holding and resting water and offers spring fishing par excellence as the fish gather in numbers prior to running the famous Loups on the next beat upstream. There is a good run of summer salmon with the grilse building in numbers from July onwards prior to the season culminating with prolific back end runs.
There are numerous lies across the private and secluded beat that come into their own from summer low all the way through to high spate water. Indeed, the Big Gannochy pool may well be one of the best high water pools in the area where, given conditions, sport can be fast and furious, whilst there are numerous necks, runs and pools that will keep the fisher entertained in low to medium water.
Following a recent change of management, the Burn Estate on the North Esk has some prime salmon fishing available. A few weekly lets are available as well as individual packages to meet the needs of anglers.
