I have just had a party of 5 fishing on a lower Dee beat, just below Park. There were around 50 kelts landed for 3 days fishing and 2 springers. There are of course some corpses on the bank however with the harsh winter there will be significant predation of kelts inc the carcase. With Frosts since November and the valley virtually snowbound for 8 weeks it has been a much colder winter than has been experienced for many a long year. As a result of the water being much colder for such a long period there will have been a higher mortality of kelts. There are also less fish visible splashing as a result of the water being below 3 degrees which is the temperature barrier for activity as explained by our biologist Adrian Hudson to me.
