Over the years, I always associated Orvis as a kinda Rolls Royce of brands. But after reading comments about there waders in particular and not hearing much positive stuff about the rest of their gear, was wondering if they were slipping from grace sort of thing. Any one else think this way or is it just me?

kenny, on seeing a pair of waders first hand before the year did you (on appearance) think that they were of better quality than the surrounding brands?

I bought a pair of 5 - 6mm orvis Neoprene waders in 1993 still going great to this day however I have found them more dificult to get in to them, either that or I have put some weight on! However the breathables do not have the same build quality, going by my own experience the company has slipped over the past few year.

I once purchased a pair of Orvis neoprene waders that leaked the first time I put them on. It was not long enough ago for me to have forgotten my promise to myself to never buy anything from Orvis again.

Certain items from Orvis are definitely quality IMHO - a lot of the fly tying materials are very good when they are made or sourced in the USA.
I always enjoy reading their Fly Tying Catalogues
However, the company's main tackle items such as rods etc seem to be manuafactured in Asia etc and Orvis can no longer really be described as a manufacturer - more a Distributor!
The Orvis rods seems Ok Value to me, though
Orvis reels do seem very good quality also
Not so keen on their fly lines, however but their leader material is very good, especially the Fluorocarbon which is excellent

Bought a pair of Orvis Neo. waders from a Glasgow Angling store near Glasgow cross. Shold have tried them on as one foot face South and the other North had them replaced only to find next pair leaked followed by another which also leaked. Not so daft asked for my money back. Full refund obtained. Three spoiled days fishing, never to be replaced.

SS thats shocking three pairs on the trot like that. That just reinforces my thought on Orvis and their apparent lack of quality goods.
Is this yet another company getting most of their products made in the far east I wonder?
