Not found it yet !!
Keep looking though in the hope that one day the perfect tackle shop, with everything I could ever want, will appear.

For what I need, I was happy enough to stop by at John Norris of Penrith if passing by. But lately have been calling into GAC and they have a cracking big shop with what seems like - every thing one could wish for!

I've only dealt with GAC once and had first class service. All items delivered the next day. I was thumbing through the winter tying catalogue though and was going to place another order. Your post and many others like it have made me think twice. As for the perfect tackle shop with everything in it there isnt one

Not so sure about GAC, I place and paid for an order instore in the middle of November, The items i wanted were not in stock but i was informed that they would be delivered to my home address within a few weeks. Just before Christmas i received part of my order with a note saying the outstanding items would be sent out soon. As of today still no sign of the outstanding items. There will be stuff Ian that will not be available, especially on-line, but for my own needs, I have not been stumped yet. Even when they were in there old place in Claythorne Street (across fae the sex shop, just in case this rings a bell with you) ;D ;D

I cant see past Somers in Aberdeen.
Great service, good stock of tackle and fly tying materials and will match and often beat any tackle from other shops even when on offer.
Very good with returns, speedy and efficiant, I have even had the owner (david) take a drive out to the beat I was fishing to give me a new rod after breaking one mid morning. Now thats what I call service!!!

I use two Crockets in Blairgowrie they are good and often price match items for me,and Anglers choice in Dundee, again will price match and in a lot of cases beat the best price i could find, and theres a large stock from clothing to fly tying all under one roof.
And if it's not there it will be in a couple of day's if you want it.
Also Anglers choice does a really good delivery service from there web site or i can just phone Robbie pay by card and it will sent that day if not the next.

Two tackle shops made an indelible impression on me.
Farlows of London circa 1969 - amazing place Just reeked of quality and whose Catalogue I read and re-read for years. Still have a Devon Minnow
Crockharts of King Street, Stirling - the original shop before it moved up and down the street. Now that was what a "real" Tackle Shop should smell like - a cross between a Cobblers and a Drysalters, if you get my drift.
I like Country Life of Edinburgh these days and Gamefish is also good.
