Went to the River Ness with Ross Macdonald to the Ness Castle beat as guests of Speycasting Champion and absolute gentleman Gordon Armstrong (Nessc). What a fantastic beat and set up with perhaps one of the finest fishing lodges you will ever come across. Just to give a flavour of how talented Gordon's casting prowess is if you haven't seen him cast. Thigh deep in water he has cast 59 yards with a 15 footer. He has also cast 73.5 yards with an 18 footer with Carron equipment. We had tremendous hospitality with breakfast provided prior to fishing and then a hot lunch . He took us to our allocated beats and we fished the short "experimental" day. It was a pleasure to cast a fly on these beautiful streams and I was well pleased to hear he landed a 21 lber when we caught up for a chat late morning. Alas both Ross and I blanked but it was nice to get a hard pull from a fish as dusk descended on the beat. To get a flavour of the Ness Castle experience look at the website www.nesscastlelodges.co.uk/ I hope to return one day.

I have secured six days fishing for 5 rods with 6 nights’ accommodation for week commencing Sunday 24th October through Gordon Armstrong at the fabulous 5 star Ness castle Lodge and fishing beat. I have the Thursday,Friday and Saturday slots booked and would be most grateful for those that are interested in fishing Monday-Wednesday to confirm their interest to me by pm and we can secure your reservation.
The beat accommodates 5 rods and there is the opportunity for you to bring your partner along as the Ness Castle lodge sleeps 10-there would of course be costs for additional visitors staying inc food accommodation etc.I need to have definite confirmation of full names and numbers for Gordon ASAP. Costs per day are £150 PLUS VAT £176.25 PER ROD/DAY.
The Lower Ness sees a late run of fish and characteristics of the river are that is it always clear as Loch Ness acts as a filter for spate run off. It is neither too warm or too cold as it is loch fed. It has lovely pools and streams and can be fished from bank or boat. I have had one day there but have seen enough from the facilities there to know it is a great place to go for a short end of season break before the long winter nights and salmon spawning ends the fishing season.

What are the catch returns like for that particular time of the year Ken.
Five year averages would be nice to see.
