at a crowded spot on the Cowlitz river, a dear little 8 lb. hatchery hen and the fly she ate. She took on the dangle, and was hooked near the nose with an Alec Jackson 1.5, so playing her was a little touchy. tasted good tonight! Steelhead for dinner with salad. Happy New Year, everyone! Bob

Well done, I'd love to catch a steelhead in its natural environment one day (had a couple of naturalised escapes in Scotland but not quite the same).
Is that a Meiser rod or a cook your own?

Second that well done. Lovely fish and right size for eating I bet.

the rod is a 14' 6/7/8 Meiser "S", casting a 530 grain scandi head with poly tips. A very light, very fast, very forgiving scandi finesse rod.
that fish was so fresh from ocean she felt as firm as a brick, and the fillets were bright red. I never bonk, or even beach, wild fish. But a fin-clipped hatchery zombie is going home with me...yummm

forgive my poor UKspeak..."bonking" is very different from clubbing a fish over there! I'm talking about the ol' wood shampoo, of course.
