Looking at February fishing and there's some availability on Lower Floors. Never fished it and wondering what the water's like. Nice fly water or slower Tweed canal style?

It's a lovely beat with a mix of both streamy and slow water bit of boat work depending on the height, nice wooden hut with big fire, I was there for a day in May it blew a gale all day but I managed to sneak one out.

Thanks and nice work on your fish. The 5y average to 4 rods seems to compare favourably with a lot of other February fishing too.
If I understand it correctly most of the early fish run through to the beats around Kelso unless the water is very cold when they'll hold up below Coldstream bridge until it warms up.

Hi Joe-you really must come up to Deeside in February-you can drink some scotch and sing in the karaoke in the Stag by night and fish for fresh springers by day ;D

Nothing booked yet so all options open. Never fished Floors before so it seems like the most affordable way to do a recce whilst still having a (relatively) decent chance of a fish. Then again the idea of belting out some Johnny or Kenny after 3 gallons of Jura 16y and some naked pool is hard to turn down...

Hey Joe-thats got a ring to it Opening day on the river usually sees some good action for the lower beats-Tony Black had 5 last year on opening day at Little Blackhall. Opening night shenanigans in the "devils triangle" in Banchory can be entertaining. (Burnett,Stag & Douglas) I am reliably informed that some of the forums finest will be on Deeside in opening week and I wish them all tight lines. Altries on opening week will be worth a cast. Lovely pools and with the river so cold and thick with grue there's a fair chance that springers will be lying in the lower beats amongst the kelts. I will probably have a cast there myself.

Doesn't matter how cold it is they head for Kelso area, Couple of years back it was 32degs and almost summer level and we couldn't stop them at Coldstream they just went straight past us. If we have a few Kelts about then that seems to decoy them in. But at least you get a chance to fish some of the big name beats for sensible money.

Only 3 gallons you're not allowed on the pool table unless you've had at least 4 gallons of Highland Park The rules might be changed this year if Ken can get me sorted with enough o the Dalmore Dee Dram ;D ;D ;D
