Since the shrimp has been banned on nearly all Scottish rivers, well all the ones i fish anyway, I surprisingly opt for the floating devon minnow. I find the takes are allmost identical to those takes on the shrimp, That wee par like pook or the savage rod wrenching pulls. Ye canny beat it. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Up on the Ness and surrounding rivers we always use weighted minnows, which are great throughout the season. The black and orange is the most popular minnow throughout the year, although the ruby minnow is deadly in the back end. An angler from Tayside came up this year with the floating minnow; which was used to great effect. I even managed a couple myself .

Depends on the weather and the conditions, Tobys great for chucking into the wind but the rap can bring them from the depths.

A close 2nd to the wee floater is the conventional weighted devon fished in a good flow like a fly. What a thrill when the weight comes off the devon as the fish moves forward---then the pause as you expect the weight to come on--wonderful.

Devons - great fun and deadly
second fave if conditions not suitable for the flee is Blair Spoon - had good success this year with them.

I think in the last few years the flying C has blown everything out the water,iv seen so many fish taken on it its no real.Personaly speaking when spinning i like nothing better than an 18grm zebra toby fished in heavy water and allowed to swing round in the current just so your rod tip is twitching or a 2in devon attached to a ball bearing swivel and hillman lead fished of my abu 6500A in the right conditions i love that type of salmon fishing. Have to agree with Skippy that fishing an 18g Toby was my favoured method, only moving up to a 28 g when it was a really big or coloured water.
Have some of Salmonnut's minnows and am planning on using them to good effect at the right moment and beat this season.
Was never a fan of Metal Devons - preferred the old Spey Minnow or Copper Lined Wooden ones
Only two other Lures I used was a wee Silver Salar (around 12g?) and large Size 4 Mepps with a Yellow Body for Coloured water.
I have only used a Flying C twice so not experienced with it So Toby/Koster/Elipse/Salar style of lure is my favourite from the past.
