I have fished mono for years with some success, at the start of the past season I changed to braid and on one occasion when the water was low and clear , on the retreive I noticed I could see the braid under the water, cant help thinking the fish can aswell. Has anyone got any views on this?
Thanks..

I use yellow stren in low water haven't noticed any drop in catches.

I doubt a Salmon has the intelligence to figure out the line is connected to a lure and puts two and two together to relate the the line as being a danger. I've taken Salmon with the fly on the end a 12" leader tied direct to a fast sink line a fair few times. If they want the fly or lure, they are oblivious of what it is attached to in my experience. Fish the way that makes you feel confident though. That's half the job done towards getting a fish when Salmon fishing. Martin,im lucky to fish waters in the spring where im looking for fish no more than 3 rods out so distance etc aint important,,,i also like the bit of give in mono for the bigger springers and like to bully them a bit to get them to the net a bit quicker,,,also find that using mono when theres extra water on means the drag on the line helps keep the bait moving and means i can fish a slightly lighter lead as the drag on the line pulls the bait round into slightly slacker water and carries on fishing more natural for longer...
i like braid for later on as i like to switch to floating raps instead of count downs,so i can get distance easier, and like to spin more upstream as the water warms up later in the season,,,also love braid for bait fishing,as i've found over the last few years on waters i fish the fish are tending to hold the worms etc rather than backing off and you can feel the trembling through the braid(its accounted for a good number of fish that i would have missed im sure if i was using mono,,,and i like to free line shrimps alot with braid...
