Hi All, I've been playing with a few patterns - and came up with this Frankenstein stitch (hence Shelley - Blue bit comes from the Guniea fowl). I like the 'chatter' in the tail from a Frances or Feeler-fly- and I also like the idea of the shrimpy stiffness and crunch if a fish went for it. In experiments I wanted a mobile and shrimpy skirt - i tried yellow bucktail - but it looked too stiff -also artic and runner but too mobile and floppy - so I tried an enticing soft mobile skirt using Schlappen - also conscious to avoid 'hook-wrap'. I like the Park-shrimp mirage over black look - so stitched that in - no bones about it, just copied. I wanted some shrimpy fronds so added a small amount of Black Bucktail and then the guinea fowl (struggled with Teal - so i'll admit I had to abandon - any tips?). Finally, Frances flies spin, more likely induced by the cylindrical shape but wasn't sure whether the stripped cock hackles would act as 'stabilisers' or help induce the spin - so I thought a long centred overwing may act to stabilise the core of the fly - if you can imagine water coming over a 'fatter' elongated surface, it has to stabilise. It could be bobbins in the water - i just need to see. Anyway, thoughts and comments welcome. Regards, Patrick Anyway, this is the final product - Shelley's blue:
