Here's my report: Water conditions have been a little unfavourable making fluff chucking difficult, but I'm having some great success with yellow and red Antron, not forgetting old faithful red wool. Adding a little excitement I've been fishing for small finches and squirrels in the trees surrounding some Ayrshire rivers, I kindly left the locals 6 of my finest pointy bits o fluff after striking to early on some crows! Next month looks promising Mr scanny that is one of funniest posts i've seen for ages ;D i nearly spilt ma dram when reading it you get my vote for best post so far this year

[quote author=love2fish nasty looking marks on that fish tom . looks more like net marks than seal . or even an outboard engine mark ... damaged fish are usualy good takers [/quote] Hi James, how are you doing? Have you had any fishy escapades to tell us about? Let us know (even if they were damaged and gave themselves up. ) Anyhoo, the member that started this thread complaining that noone ever posts hasnt been seen or heard since----ironic, isnt it??? Come on Borderer, tell us your tales , even if its about taking the Bears in the Manor Stream into captivity. ;D Even Phil has disappeared off the radar and Im sure he had a fair slice, if not all, of the 7 fish at Park yesterday. So plenty scope on this thread yet to help inject some life back into the forum. Even Malcolm has a few reports to update us on. Surely with only 22 to 25lbs for the last 2 days he has plenty time on his hands?

was looking on the other forum can i ask a rather stupid question. once a salmon has spawned, lets say 60 miles from the sea. does it swim down strean ie head facing down river as it swims back to sea or does it face up stream and just fall back down the river. the reason i ask is someone says if a salmon swims down river it will drown with the water going in its gills rather than in its mouth. please don"t think am an arse for asking this borderer

Aye only 9 the day and it was bloody hard work! well it was if you were on the north bank trying to cast into a full gale and worse trying to row a F!!!!!!! waterlogged wooden boat that was built for calm days on the serpentine, a lot of fish seem to have moved on and reports from further upstream seem to show this with beats saying they are seeing loads moving today, but top end rising at lunchtime so could be buggered for tomorrow, down here we need it to drop 6inch to a foot and get rid of the wind as mostly stuck on two pools as middle of beat too big still Learmouth opposite us in middle has had nowt this week. Everything on wet 2 lines and inch and a half Cascades, Willie Gunns and Temple Shrimps, best the day was 19lbs

Aye Malc, sympathise with the gale bit , its no fun trying to cast into the teeth of a hurricane when you know life would be a lot easier with a toby. Just bought a new Wet2 line. Any chance of getting down for a couple of days to get used to it??? ;D

Aye that would be nice but fully booked rest of the season so can't fit you in I'm afraid, in fact I should reckon the back end is fully booked until someone pops their clogs, there's aye the spring but its a lot of Kelt bashing with the very odd Springer. May and June were better this year with 31 each month and we only fish 2 rods in June and July when we had 40. August is 2 rods most days with the House keeping two rods which are not fished everyday, this year August was exceptional with 221. But there could be a heatwave next summer and no water no fish.

The Kelts will reverse down the river with hopefully a wee rise to help them on their way, only turning to swim downstream to get past some obstacle or over a Cauld for short distances, As far as I've been told Salmons gills only work well with water going the one way but I'll ask someone who knows and let you know.

Malcolm, how come salmon run on a rising tide then?? On the Forth, which is a long ,winding estuary, we get fish immediately in and above the tide both ahead of and after high tide. When the tide pushes it can do so really fast reversing completely the estuarine flow characteristics, so presumably forcing fish to face downstream and away from fresh water. Interesting eh? ?
