Hi All, Last year I had great success on one of Ade's versions of the Gledswood Shrimp (4 fish in one day!). So I have a great affinity with this fly. Rather than rob his flies this year I decided to use my own, whatever the consequence - yeah, I know I'll come begging ;D ;D I've copied his pattern but tried some minor mods. Hoping it does me well on the Dee. In these versions, I tried regular Artic Fox, but also tried dyed Fox. The Fox is subtle (apt for the material!). The boar bristle tail and wing 'supports' help keep both Artic fox and Fox from just flapping/collapsing onto the body. In the pics, I've deliberately wetted the tail and wing separate - but both will flatten together in a flow. Anyway, I look forward to trying them. Cheers, Patrick (I have a rubbish camera - but here are some pics) Flat: Standing Up: Fluorescent Chartreuse wire - does it make a difference who knows?! The original has yellow floss - but I love this stuff: Hook: Gold Salar #13 Thread: Nano Silk Copper Tail: 3 Yellow Boar Bristle, Black Fox or Artic Fox, 2 strands Yellow Krystal Flash Rib: Fluorescent Chartreuse Wire Body: Holographic Gold Tinsel Underwing: Yellow Boar Bristle, Black Arctic Fox (or Fox), Yellow Krystal Flash (so a repeat of the Tail) Hackle: Full hackle collar of Badger yellow Overwing: Black Goat Cheeks: JC Head: Red Nail Varnish with Sally HAN

Like them DrP What I think works with the variant is not only the hair (I wanted to use a bit of runner in the tail, but with the bristle I think if you go too soft, you'll tangle) but the colours too. The original used a fluo green/yellow mono as a rib. Sure it worked with floss rib last year, but that chartreuse wire will be the way forward, just look at it in that last photo! (I would wind a few turns of it as a tag mind, just to keep the tail up a tad) I have a few new tweeks on mine, I've left out the bristle this time in the direction of mobility, but tie up a couple of your ones on an 11 salar and I'll give it a swim for sure. Nice one Ade

I'll try some on 11's with and without a tag. Makes it easier to put the tag in first - it's a busy flea when it's boar, fox, flash, rib, holo. Might also try a mini-cone variant - now that'll be interesting to try (given I have no materials) Do it with the tag

Inspired by your variant I revisited the fly of last August and included the yellow boar bristle again (but only in the tail) and found some of that chartreuse wire you gave me so tied these up (bling in the wing only and not also the tail this time). I've copied you and used a full badger hackle, 2 in yellow and 2 in blue Let me know what you think

You're showing off now - they look great. I like the idea of the blue variant as well.

Blue is not new with the Gledswood but seatrout snap at these, so for evening fishing keep the tail and wing shorter and tie it in smaller sizes.

Patrick, you send a yellow one and I'll send a blue one. Make sure you're up there to land all Neill's fish ;D

Make sure you're up there to land all Neill's fish ;D That would be bang on...next year maybe.... Anyway I was fine on my own, I was just shouting "getitupye" to Patrick when he started sprinting across from the island! ;D

Well thank bloody hell you replied on this thread Strathglass - otherwise it would have been the Ade and Patrick 'Gledswood Shrimp' appreciation society. Great fleas, honest ;D ;D
