Hi
Planning on buying a new intermediate line and have a few queries. I have is there any advantage of using a clear line or coloured one? And if using a clear intermediate what is the best way to connect your leader?
Does anyone know of a manufacturer that supplies a salmon spey line Intermediate size 8 with factory fitted loop for tying on your the leader?
cheers
Patrick

Actually salmo why waste your hard earned cash on lines that are not worth the money your going to be charged, when you can buy mill ends and put loops on both ends yourself for less than what it will cost for a brand new line from one of these rip-off tackle shops who still believe that these fly lines are worth every penny!!
John Norris and Mullarkey's have been selling Mill Ends for years now & sell hundreds of these lines every year to anglers who have learned the startling truth about the big rip-off on fly lines. Has nobody ever wondered how they can sell their lines at £3.99 - £7.99 each at a time & still make money on them??

I wonder why they are "mill ends" perhaps the sink rate is not right, perhaps they have bumps in the coating, perhaps the core is broken, who knows? But if you are willing to spend 8 quid on something that might be what it says on the box, rush in. But don't come whinging on here when your line won't cast or your fish of a life time beaks your line.

I concur with Willie here. Given the costs involved in fishing in pursuit of salmon, and at times the difficulty in getting one to take your fly. I dont think economising on the quality of your fly line, leader material or hooks is a wise option. I have had duff lines, leaders and hooks break when I started out salmon fishing donkeys years ago trying to economise. and casting them was quite frankly a pain in the proverbial. I also remember the "angst" when losing fish happened . Neither salmon or river structure are forgivers of faulty or poorly manufactured equipment. There are some really good fly lines available these days that will do the job at reasonable prices. I know anglers can cut old mill end double tapered lines and attach running line and use them as shooting heads. I used to over 20 years ago with cortland cobra running line. I used an 8/9 weight Rio AFS last year with a 13 foot Vision Catapult for a lot of summer fishing and the combination worked very well for me. The multi tip option providing flexibility when I wanted it without needing to carry a few spools / reels in my pockets when I was covering a lot of ground. It would be rio afs or guideline heads for me, or hardy mach 55 for a spey line.

Ypu pays your money and you takes your chances - it is hard enough for most people nowadays to catch a fish so why take a gamble - Invest in the best because you are investing in yourself. You cannot pay a little and buy a lot. Tight lines

The Monteith Lines are highly recommended by many but I cannot say I have even cast one. Just never had the opportunity
I am a major fan of Michael Evans Intermediate in #10/11
And the Rio AFS I tried on Saturday is very good also
