Very tidy, Mo.
Try using a soft hen hackle for one of the hackles - it gives a lovely webby effect.
Not sure if it's the camera work but the orange hair is very vibrant

Glad to you like it undergillie . sloggi, thanks for the comments. I got some Metz soft hackles, after reading a post of yours, and I agree it adds more body, and movement to the hackle area. I aint sure now what orange fox I used for that wing, these were tied over a year ago. I will have a look and take a pic.

Nice ties Neil, I really like these! I've been experimenting with this type of fly myself. I was introduced to these two years ago and the cone placement does seem to add movement in the water. Sunray shadows and the likes also work well in this setup. For real long flies I'd be tempted to try and put the cone in front of a regular tube first to get the hook to sit further down the wing. Haven't tried this yet but can tell you that just having a long extension between the hook and the cone doesn't work at all ... I like how you did the hackles. I have tied some with schlappen as well, not sure if one or the other makes a 'better' fly, just a different one IMO.

Thanks for the comments CB,
I have tied a few of these with different sizes and weights of cones, and I agree that its adds movement and assists in supporting the wing.
I have seen some of these flies tied with a slightly longer tube at the rear, but with the cone set up behind the wing, but have not tried them myself, so can't comment on how they work. Did you find that the long extension tubing was too soft?
I think hackle types can make some difference, depending on the type of water the fly is being used in. As you say, it may not make a better fly, but a different fly, which is another option.
