i keep being told by various forum members here, and else where that grilse and sea trout are taken from peebles upwards during the summer. one member even sent me a photo of a pool on dawyck he claimed was full of sea trout in july. i have fished upper tweed all my life and have never known salmon /sea trout to be taken before late september, other than the odd one. so here is the deal ..... anyone who catches a salmon /seatrout above tweed bridge in peebles before 1st september 2011. pm me and i will pay him/ her £10 for every fish caught. we need proof of capture ie photo of the fish and photo of valid ticket, and witness ie gille i look forward to seeing if anyone can claim a tenner tightlines borderer ;D ;D ;D

jamie. bold statement!! I have fished tweed at peebles and above for 25 years and have caught a few and seen many a sea trout from this stretch of the upper tweed, i've watched a pods of sea trout slip into the tail of the pool below neidpath castle on quite a few occasions on a balmy july gloamin. i've had them above lynefoot in june!! the rumbler at cadrona is an excellent sea tout holding pool and they can be regularly heard crashing about in there from july onwards... when the bats come out so do the sea trout!! as for salmon i've personally never seen any evidence of any fish caught or seen in this area before august in my lifetime! the sea trout do creep up, not in numbers but they do swim the upper tweed in summer!

ptg well aware of cardronna and even further up on the hayston private water but i can never remember anything from peebles up river and remember there is no night fishing after july and none between 1am and 4am allowed ;D ;D ;D i may loose a couple of quid here but if it proves to me a point so be it lets see what happens none tries on peebles and dawyck reports the very very odd one so hopefully someone will come good from tweed bridge -mannor if that was to happen i widnae mind parting with a tenner just to see one taken fae here this is not a challenge more of a study that if it starts costing loads of£££££ will quickly be withdrawn ;D ;D ;D

Have fished at Broughton and lost very big fish whilst trout fishing - Never saw thenm so could not ascertain as to whether they were sea trout or salmon - Also seen my bro lose a number of extremely sizeable fish at Broughton too which were extremely acrobatic and they were always north of 5lbs++- This was during period May to July - I am certainly sure one of them was definitely a salmon as I had it on for about 20 minutes and never saw it once. Only confession to this was they were always hooked whilst fishing brandling worms into heads of pools.

I would be certain anyone upstream worm fishing at Broughton from June onwards is more than likely to be looking to take money off you. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that if we have someone fishing a dropping water with an upstream worm up at broughton/Kailzie they will certainly connect with sizeable sea trout and possibly salmon too- The big one that I lost was a lunker and easily north of 8/9lbs
I had it on my old lamiglas 10ft Sea trout rod which has stopped many salmon and I never saw the fish for 20 minutes it was on - It just cruised up and down and I was giving it stick - What always amazes me is how a fish can just suddenly come off after this ammount of time whilst fishing the worm.
I hope someone can go up there and report back to the forum - Very decent 'trout' water after a spate if you know what I mean..All the contact we have had with big fish has been after a spate whilst the river was fining down but still carrying colour.

;D ;D ;D well my big bold statement proved correct ....dispite good water levels, cardronna having its best summer to date. tweed catching salmon..sea trout for fun, not one, not even a bite he haw, just like i knew it would be. please can we now face it salmon ..sea trout do not venture past peebles till the first good spate in september and then only a few. yes without doubt the odd fish will turn up in the summer but imho you have a better chance of being hit by lighting and winning the lottery all on the same day than you do have of connecting with one .unless a very late report comes from dawyck my money stays in my wallet.
