I've used these 'Stinger' trebles this season and must say i've found them superb for both sharpness and strength,,,i've also used the shorter shanked patter on the Stinger c's aswell...i've used the shorter pattern for most of my Devon work but have also used the longer shanked pattern for lies close in where fish are hooked near enough on the dangle and have found a better number of fish landed in this situation,,,they arn't the cheapest of hooks but when you consider the time etc put in for a springer then they pay for themselves... Stinger trebles..St-36BC..@..St-47TG When i fish the Devon i like to keep the mount as light as possible and avoid line twist so i can minimise the number of joins in the set-up i.e 2 swivel and pieces on line...i simpley drill out a bead to accomadate the eye of the treble, then simpley tie the treble onto a 3-4ft leader then slip the bead down over the eye then add a plastic sequinn then cut a cotton bud or piece of plastic tube to the length of the bait,,,, once the Devon hits the water the bait pushes back and rests on the sequinn then the bait and sequinn spin on the plastic bead eliminating line twist, there for one swivel can be used which also make the set up stronger with less flaws in it and also reduces tangles.. Bud and Bead mount... stump...

Stump, very informative post.
I use the ST-36BC's for tube flies and have also found them to be very good.
Is there any reason why you think the longer shanked ST-47TGs are more effective on fish taken near the dangle?
Also, I have not seen Devons made in the shape (or colour) of the orange, yellow and black one in your post. Are there certain conditions in which you you would fish this shape as opposed to the more "standard" shape?

Stump, thanks for the info. Is that a braided leader you use with the mounts?

PC87,I find fish that take on the dandle seem to nip and slightly hold the bait sometimes and i find theat the longer shanked pattern is set back that little bit further so i can get a treble slightly further back past the nib with this kind of take...as for devon shapes i use all kinds but i do like the fan tailed ones but the length and colour are more important to me than shape,,,,
Kendo,my mount leader is just mono(Stren or Berkley)usually 3-4ft in length..i very rarely use braid until late May onwards in any of my fishing..

I have to ask do forgive my ignorance, please.
Do you make your own minnows? If so, what are they made of? Or is it a commercial secret?
Where do you fish with them?
I am intrigued by the shape of the Orange and Black on in the photo. Never seen anything like that before.

Tweedbunnet,,, a friend of mine turns nearly all my baits(painted and unpainted)I've painted a few multicoloured patterns but the said gentleman does most of them...as for the shape they are a traditional fan tail pattern...i fish them mainly on the Severn and Wye,,i do like the look of fantails but i usually fish all kinds of Devons ,its whatever i like the look at on the day.. They all work .. A FEW MORE FAN TAILS.. Last season i saw Salmon nuts baits and dropped him a line and Iains done me some cracking baits not all would be to everyones liking in colours but i like them(springers are a different fish ),,Iains recently done me a new order of some colour combinations i wanted for the 2010 springers on the Severn and boy they are spot on... Spring baits... stump...
