Is it worth cutting a S1/2 10/11 power taper to suit a 9/10 rod?
It is currently 10.6m long and weighs 40.6g. To get it down to 36g I'd need to remove 0.9m leaving it at 9.7m.
Not sure if that will work okay or not? I'd normally use that head with a fast sinking (at least) polyleader.
Or should I just get a proper 9/10 head?

I cut a few 10/11's down and once they are near 10m you get even less finesse with them, so you won't be admiring sexy loops as you fish Another aspect is the flight, if your looking to fish long distance then they will be pretty unstable compared to a 13m distance cut head. If it's 30 yards and bellow then it won't matter really. Ive got a s1/2 at 10.6m and it casts, it's not as nice as a ready to go Power Taper but the fish won't be able to tell. At 12m my others seem to go very nicely.
