Here are a few flies 1 tied a couple of months back Dave, A stunning collection of flies there. One in particularly caught my eye, in the picture above. It looks like a purple/ red flamethrower, any chance of a closer look, or even better the pattern ;D ;D? Neil

The basics of the flamethrower 'style' is to have the fly with a raised wing rather than a long tail/ flat wing. this is to prevent the dreaded tail wrap of a shrimp fly. This is normally achieved by first tying a hackle in to support the wing. I leave the rear half of the hook bare or cover with holo tinsel, then starting at the middle of the shank, tie in the hackle, tie it all in, then tie in the bucktail wing on top, raising the wing and preventing it from wrapping round the hook. then tie in your head hackle as per normal. I hope this helps a bit. Dave.

No need for a SBS for me, but thanks again for the dressing. Neil

thanks guys. I quite often find that half the battle of tying new patterns is understanding the philosophy behind it and now I understand that philosophy behind flamethrowers then I might get a fiew tied up.
cheers
