What tips do you use on your shooting heads?
An example: On a 13' rod I'll put an Afs hover on, in the summer I'll use a 10' inter tip but mostly it'll be a fast sink.
Going deeper, say an S1/2 or S2/3 Power Taper, what tips do you find fish level?
On an s1/2 I default to a fast sink tip, but can I get away with an Inter tip?
Thanks
Steve

inspirational Mr Ritchie The s2 tip on the s1/2 head feels pretty fast so I'm not sure if the inter tip stops it getting down or not. I wrapped a fast tip on every stone first run down a pool on Tuesday with a plastic baboon, so something less fierce is required on the tip whilst keeping the same head.

Putting an intermediate tip on a sink1/sink2 defeats the purpose of using the 1/2 in the first place.
I would use a type 2 tip or faster.

Generally speaking, I don't use tips or polys etc on shooting heads. I use home-made tapered leaders following the "granbo-style" leaders pretty closely. A well constructed tapered leader will provide an excellent turnover and good balance to your casts. By changing the taper, the angler can easily turn over big flies or fine down to present size 13 very gently.
For example, on a #10/11 line, for the early spring, I'll use 1m of 50lb leader --> and 1m of 25lb line. This will turn over most big tubes. If not trim 6" at a time off the 25lb section until right.
