What do you expect from a rod manufacturer when a section develops a fault? Are your expectations met or are you left with a sting in the wallet?
Friends have had Guideline sections break, and most have went to the local stockist, paid the replacement fee (approximately £40), and fished on that day. Sensible customer orientated solution and my only experience until now of a rod warranty.
I've yet to break a rod myself yet, however I've got two rods- one in bits and the other cracked- that need attention or replaced.
Manufacturer one has the sections in stock and for £74 for two it'll be back to a four piece by next week. They carry sections from rods dating back over 5 years. Reasonable value and it's useful to fall back on.
Manufacturer two told me they don't carry any sections for the rod, but they would upgrade me to a rod of the same length (albeit 2 line weights lighter) and same value (rrp), for a mere £400, under warranty. Mental, absolutely bonkers, are they in government, George in disguise? I can import the said model for £326 from the USA despite the UK £900 rrp.
I never gave a thought to this scenario when I purchased either of them, but shall in future.
Would you pay a premium on a rod if you were assured of a hassle free warranty? I'm glad I have with my other, more sensible rods.
Difficult difficult lemon difficult...

Regarding Manufacturer support,I personally canny go by Daiwa, and I don't think their family of rods are any worse than the so called Premium or top class rod makers,a called them makers cause a wisn'y sure how to spell manufacturers. This is what I call the Snap On tool syndrome, they tell you its good,so it must be good ,but in reality they are nae better than the rest. The tools are often 5 times the price, but they still wear out and break, long before eg a Top line Draper But wait a meenit,Snapon have a Lifetime Guarantee. Bullshit, you have already paid up front to replace them, and any other self respecting Tool manufacturer will change a faulty item within reasonable request. what am driv'in at is the fact we get sucked in to the big sell, and regardless of the product it has to be good to survive in the real world. Unfortunately the Big Names are so far up their own arse, they will never see daylight. They seem to be doin you a favor by letting you use their stuff, and usually to nae distinct advantage.don't let them kid ye Whereas Daiwa ground their ethos on Quality, and the proof is when you suffer an issue ,usually self inflicted they stand by their no quibble Guarantee. Basically if you invest your loyalty with them they will stand by you. Oh! and by the way, you are investing in Scottish/Japanese Manufacturer. Just how i see it,been fixin stuff, and been fishin for too many years to see it any other way. Best regards to all. Bigfish

Make your own Scanny, 1/3 of the price and custom built to boot. Break a section....get a replacement blank section, as long as it isn't the butt section you are talking a few £££ for thread, rings etc
