Hi Sewinfly, I posted this elsewhere regarding the Alta and Glx blanks, I hope it's of use. It compares the 12'6 9/10 Alta and Glx blanks.
The 14' is a nice rod, there were 15' Altas for £140 on eBay from the USA recently so keep watching.
"Both Rods share the stinger taper, with the Alta and Glx graphite's being used for each.
The real difference on the Alta:
The H+H eyes don't scream on the Alta and cost about $10 less, there's no plastic recessing in the handle, and the blanks brown.
The glx blank is stiffer than the Alta, it uses a higher grade fibre weave so you get a faster recovery, but both are fast with bags of power. The alta loads a foot deeper into the blank when comparing them by oscilation.
I have the 12'6 9/10 in both Glx and Alta and the difference is 3 yards distance wise. If you were a devout underhand caster accelerating a lighter head then I'm sure you would notice a difference and the Glx is for you, but if not and you like to feel the rod load up then the Alta is nicer and a pick and pop and you start questioning the 100% higher cost of the Glx over the Alta on Rrp.
The 14' models have a little more difference in performance to them, but otherwise the 15' has some good reviews, It's hard to justify the cost difference as it purely in the blank.
If I was Looking at the 15' or 13' models then the Alta is a very credible option for shooting heads.
A few members have tried both, with typical comments being "that feels soft" for the Alta, and "i never knew they were soft" for the Glx with most people assuming fast =stiff.
I prefer the Alta to fish with for a full day as when your casting loosens up late in the afternoon the Alta is more forgiving.
Ps. Keep an eye out on eBay, there's a few offers that pop up that really are silly not to buy."
