This is a river that I never hear much about in recent years. Last time I viewed this river it was below the bottom dam - kilmarock I think? and it was way back in the early eighties. The salmon below the bridge were sitting there in their hundreds, row after row of them.
Whats it like nowadays, does it still have good catches and can one get onto it??

Look at fishpal, Beauly, not the same numbers of grilse but 800/year caught below the dam.
To get on try Bidwells Inverness, Alastair Campbell is the man.
I fish it a few times a year and enjoy it, catching a few fish.

Do Bidwells handle a lot of fishing up that neck of the woods Malcolm? I hear the Beauly can be very good in the summer but hard to get onto.

The Lower Beauly (from Kilmorack downstream) is time shared. The rods that come available are usually those the owners can't fish, so the offers vary from year to year. Bidwells deal with most of these so if interested they are the people to speak to.

It's a river of which I have very happy memories, as my grandparents used to rent fishing there and it's where I caught my first and second salmon in September 1974!
As has been said, the bottom section is timeshared, but there are some weeks that were seemingly bought more as investments than for the owners to fish, and these may be available to rent. I think that, as is the usual pattern, the prime weeks found keen buyers quickly, and the weeks that may be for rent are largely not at the best time. I've fished it for the past five years in one of these weeks, though sadly won't be back there this year. We were there in late May, and I have usually been lucky enough to get a fish or two in the week, but it's nothing like the bonanza that can perhaps be had at peak time.
It's a fair sized river, but is mostly fairly gentle and there are only one or two places that are the least difficult to wade. In much of it the river bed is quite gravelly. Early in the year the Falls beat, which is the topmost of the three, is by far the best, as there's nothing much to hold the fish up until they come to Kilmorack dam. The Home and Downie come into their own later in the year.

Hi Kenny, That description relates to the Upper Beauly above Aigas dam which runs from Junction of Glass and Farrar downstream. A more affordable option than the lower river and catch returns lower as a result. Do not be put off by the 5 year averages however, there are a lovely selection of pools on both beats and given decent water I would be confident of taking a fish any day from mid july onwards. As has been pointed out there are usually vacant rods on the lower river each year, I think they start around £120 a day depending on time of year.
