Was thinking at the end of last season how often a shooting/running line needs replacing. When one imagines the stress that is put onto the loop connections at least, must surely shorten or leave that loop vulnerable to failing at some point when of course you least expect/want it.
So given that they cost not far short of a "proper" line nowadays, how often should we replace it? or do some remake the loop again to extend its life time?

So given that they cost not far short of a "proper" line Tight git ! I changed a running line mid season last year after having used it continuously for the whole of the previous ( 2009 ) season. The pre formed loop was still as solid as the day I bought it , and I only changed it out due to the coating starting to crack over the most used length of line. Rio Powerflex 0.035''

I use compline and just re-do the loop when I think its needing done.

It's very important to check your running line especially the front section that sees the rod rings/water/strain of a fish on a regular basis. I tend to re-do the front loop at least once a season usually in the lead-up to what I hope is a busy back-end. Look for kinks, wear, cracks etc. You can take it off and turn it round - running line takes a beating so keep it in good shape.
Like Madkeen, I'm a big fan of Compline
