With the sudden influx of sea-trout on the Dee last season (long may it continue!), I fished this old favourite quite a lot attracting sea-trout and salmon... This is a pattern I've used for a number of years - seems even better since silver Salar hooks came along. Hook: Anything from size 6-14 (on small tubes if you prefer) Thread: Red or Black Body: Silver or Holo-Silver tinsel with silver wire (varnish body) Hackle: Blue Hen beard Wing; Blue Squirrel Simple, but effective!

Cracking wee fly there Neil. Were you using it at nite or during the day? Both Martin. But especially good just as darkness was falling. One of those "duel-purpose" flies that'll take salmon and sea-trout

Cheers Neil, I do like flies that will take both species, will need to give them a try next season If it's fresh, it'll likely have a go Very easy to tie and the varnished body gives an added toughness. I generally fished it last year on the point with an Editor on the dropper - sweet

I'm gonna do a bit more seatrout fishing at night next season when i'm there. Generally something dark with a flash of silver (or gold). Browns, blacks, and blues. Occasionally red. Silver Stoat, Executioner, Editor etc... Silver March Brown can be a good taker of sea-trout/finnock from the lower river. I also have a rod with a Monkey - takes a few fish and brings others up and gets them angry At night, I do like a big old Snake fly or Falkus lure - usually blue.
