Aye if it wasna him it was Ogelsby Nae defo not Ogelsby, he wasnay a thinker, he just nicked Ghillie's ideas and then claimed them for himself Advanced Salmon Fishing was written by Reg Rhyini. Neill Graesser, amongst other things was a proprietor on the Cassley which is one of the Kyle of Sutherland rivers. His claim to fame was that he created low water dibbling pools on his beat and caught loads of fish on his skating flees of all hues and sizes(including Tadoles------not the kind you will be chucking about off your spinning rod soon, Tony He also co wrote a book "The Salmon Fishing Rivers Of Scotland" along with Dr. Derrick Mills. I have both books somewhere.

Its definitely a Graesser pattern. He wrote Salmon fly-fishing, Advanced Salmon Fishing: Lessons from Experience and Salmon rivers of Scotland.
He used long winged patterns a lot even in cold water, very good books and worth picking up if you can find them.

I have a couple of Neil Graesser's books: Salmon and Advanced Salmon Fishing.
I just flicked through one of the opening chapters and it looks like he came up with the colours for the Tadpole with Peter Campbell (who tied the prototypes) while fishing the Oykel one day.
He then used it on the Cassley where it landed its first fish. He says he susbsequently used it in the spring below 42oF when he then switched to the Collie as Underghillie said.
I think Reg Righyni also wrote a book called Advanced Salmon Fishing.
