Ive almost finnished my tying for next season Ive maybe 5 or 6 patterns to tie max. All my flies are tubes or doubles of various size'z and weight's. Now 1 thing I dont have is some Trebles dressed with a tying of my choice, I did have some last time round. Now I was wondering is there any advantages of having some in the box? Or is it just a personal prefernce thing?

CC
I would always include a quite lightly dressed Treble Silver Stoat and also a Green Butt or plain all-Black Stoat's Tail in sizes 10-14.
I would also be inclined to carry some Longtailed flies dressed in Sizes 8-12 (Cascade, Ally's Shrimps, Ornage and Gold Kicker Shrimps and Irish Shrimps etc) on trebles
Why? They fish at a slightly different depth and are terrific hookers of fish.

TB makes sense what your saying, but using different poly leaders and fly type would do the same. As for good hookers thats a different story.

TB your right again. What Im trying to do here is find out the advantages like you have stated already before I jump away and buy some. I do like the idea of a wee silver bodied fly tied on a wee silver treble as I also do with small doubles which I am about to tie up. e.g. squirrel, blue n silver, silver stoats executioner and the arndilly fancy. These are for summer grilse fishing and also to cover the chance of a sea trout atdawn and dusk.

Trebles for me as i have an allergy to any other type of hook ;D Some flees look and swim much better on trebles than on other types hook, EG cascade type flees Tony

I used to use trebles all the time but changed to using doubles a couple of seasons ago and I have never looked back.

In the smaller sizes doubles are not good hookers on the initial take, small trebles have the advantage here. Sizes 10 - 16 the smaller the hook, relatively, the more the advantage. ie a size 16 treble will hook and hold better than a size 16 double

Interesting. TBH I was thinking about size 12's and 14's and tying some simple shrimp styles with silver/ pearl bodies and just changing tail, wing and hackle colour.

Ive raked through all my tying stuff this afternoon and found some e/d trebles some tied and others not. Im going to give some a whirl. Ive just tied a dee shrimp version of a silver wilkinson and it looks promising. Oh I almost forgot tying trebles is a right pain in the fingers
