I was needing a new box for all these flies I've been making so an old Abu spinner box was pressed into service. Room for 42 tubes and hooks in this one. Cross rods were made from aluminium tube from B&Q, tubes are held on cut down hat pins! Old sea fishing hooks glued onto the cross rods were used as an internal turning mechanism. One of the compartments was retained for hooks etc. A magnetic strip glued to the base does the job.

Brian that's great and very practical. I've been looking for a decent tube box and now I've found it ;D ;D ;D
Do you drill holes and glue the hat pins into the cross bars, where do the sea hooks come in?
More detailed pictures would be good, without the flies in, I fancy trying it

Thanks for sharing this Brian, it looks similar to the ones selling for £20 odd in GAC

This thread has info on the first one I made salmo.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tackle&action=display&thread=4332&page=1 I didn't want the external fittings for turning the rods hence the old hooks glued to the rods inside. To be honest you don't really need anything to turn the rods. As long as they are loose fittings it is easy to turn them just by pulling the flies. On the first one I drilled the holes but you have to watch and not crack the plastic. Now I melt through it with a dubbing needle to start with then larger diameter nail or similar to get to the right size. The cross members are drilled with a 2mm drill and the pins glued in place with Araldite. Disappointed that I only saved £20 , although I get a lot of satisfaction from using something I made myself. I already have one of the Eumer boxes which is good for smaller tubes. BnC

Your getting good at those Brian. I saw the first one you did a while back, very practical solution for tubes at a fraction of the cost of a eumer box
