For me the wing tips on this particular trout fly should reach just short of the end of the tippets but no longer

In my research the wing tip ends about end of body, and low tent hugging like sedge wing over body Hackles were tied in by base at rear and long flowing I am waiting to get select schlappen which i am going to burn to make spey sub Coque is supposedly even better Also coot skin for hackles And have just got a scource for heron that is a different speicies from the protected ones but will chech that out first Dyed pheasant hackles in irish shrimps can be used but have a steep hackle shaft taper keep for smaller size flies can also do glasso type wings with these hackles Blue eared pheaseht hackles expensive Dont like the look of whitting spey just personal thing thought it may be alright at first This is what i have found out only and if anyone can pass on advice or correct me on the right path please do i wamtnt to do traditional speys true to there pst tiers as near as i can Fly head Loads of anti clockwise bobbin spinning to unravel thread twist lay flat thread wraps three coats of thin layers hard as nails Tip get small large mouthed screwtop bottle i have a couple of loonhead cement ones(stuff is garbage)washout thourghly pour varnish in keep varnish level as high as you can with small marbles or ball bearings to minimise air gap varnish lasts lot longer just plop bearing or marble in as level drops, when used wash out bottle and marbles bearings start again

Thanks Dave Interesting how do fibres look to you in running water, shed load of materials to buy,and i have about a garage worths just now it really depends on nthe hackles themselves, as to how they look in a cuurent. The bird fur is a bit softer and really moves well, but can end up sitting quite flat in a faster current. The whiting spey hackles as with schlappen are a wee bit stronger so tend to hold their shape better in the water. I like my spey flies tied with the hackles trailing well past the hook point, tied like that they really swim well in the water. Dave.
