A few hundred flies every week Of course your better if you can feel and test the vice in a shop before buying. Test with trout and salmon hooks

I imagine the strength/grip of the lever actioned jaws would reduce through time - no?

I'm still using a AA type vice I got as a mere bairn 15 years ago for £4.99, the clamping mech is fine, and a tiny bit of wear on the jaws.

I still have my first decent vice hidden away somewhere. A Veniard's Salmo bought over 40 years ago. And it still works. Can't say the same about one or six cheapies that I've had since. It's usually been the jaws that go with me. Some very quickly , at that.

Mines similar to this Veniards lever vice Much better than the knob tightening versions. if you tighten the knob to much it's hard to get your fly out again

Very interesting, thanks for the information. Looks like I will some day have to invest in a more expensive vice to get the quality and longevity (yes even at my age)
