well tweed proved again yesterday that it is still by far the best salmon river in the country. a superb 35lb salmon was caught in the lower runners on upper caberston yesterday afternoon. this must be close to the biggest fish caught in scotland this year. the down side is the fish had to be chapped as it was hooked deep and was bleeding bad from the gills.for more info on this google upper caberston, i would post the link if i had a clue how to do it .

Is it justified to be fishing right through november when theres kelts about already? Is it normal for the Tweed to have a lot of kelts at this time of year? I know nowt,me!

martin you are right in the last week i have had 3 fish in the 6-8lb class black as coal and milt pouring from them. this is NOT the norm as with the water we have had these fish have pushed on up mannor water or right up river. my friend who has a farm at glenwrath on mannor water says there are not many fish in just now STRANGE

I did have a coloured cock from Bemersyde yesterday but my pal was fishing sprouston where they had ten all fresh as they come. When'll was there last week we had nine of which six were licers, very unusual for late November.

I have a theory about well mended kelts (grilse) caught early on. I suspect that some of don't colour up at all and spawn when they are still silver. A parr does not colour up but can fertilise eggs so why not a grilse. Especially very late running grilse. Last year I got a mix of silver and very very coloured kelts (red) in the first week of opening. What do you guys think

Had two kelts today which were both silver so couldn't of been in river long? Also had 15 other fish of which three were river fish the rest fresh or liced best 15lbs still loads showing. weather was horrendous more like February.

Had two kelts today which were both silver so couldn't of been in river long? They have turned back to "silver" following spawning which suggest they have been in a wee while

Aye well some fish in November are only in the river for a couple of weeks when they spawn, and certainly if they are spawning at the bottom end of the river, we tend to catch the coloured kelts in Feb or the early part of Feb at least
