I recently bought some of these Tungsten Tubes (about 13mm long) They come with a fairly vivid Pink enamel over them. You can see from the top one what happens when you use the old Kitchen Torch on them. Should have seen me juggle it when I thought it was cool enough to pick up!! There's no problem putting normal extension tubing at the end nearest the 1p. It fits really well. However, my issue is finding a way of allowing a dressing to "smooth" over the 2 bumps/ridges at the rear of the Tube. At the moment, all I can think of is using Mylar Piping secured at the rear end and the head of the tube. Flat tinsel or mylar would seem to be liable to get a bit kinked unless I build up the gaps with floss etc. I suppose that you could use Fur/Antron/Lite Brite or similar but I was wanting to dress a reasonably slim Tube with just a few fibres top and bottom to the end of the hook with a nice reflective body. For example, a Stoat/Silver Stoat /Executioner or even Piglet typeof fly which could be cast into the deeper pools in the summer when it is otherwise low water Anybody tied any flies up with this type of tube before? All suggestions welcome tweedbunnet

Those are the tungsten bottle tubes that Geoff cherret sells.
They are great for hairwings/temple dogs etc, with no body dressing at all, hence the bright colour tubes (they come in bright orange too)
if you are looking to dress a full bodied fly ie, cascade etc on these heavy tubes you are better getting tungsten slipstream tubes which are smooth, and allow for an even body.
these are available from Ron at the helmsdale tackle company or on e-bay. in sizes from 1/4inch to 1 inch.

Cheers, guys
I'll work away at them and try a variety of things and post the results soon.
Think the torch will be coming out, though for both ends of the tube.
I like a bit of Pink but there is a limit!!

I just purchased some slipstreams tubes from reelsndeals at a competitive price, so will be having a go tying some tubes up over the next few weeks.

As Dave said these are tubes that don't really require any dressing on them, but if you'd like to dress them anyway and you need a flush base you could coat the ridges with epoxy to smoothen things out. Or maybe fill things up with tying thread, might be a bit counter productive though?
