Here is a Big burly templedog I tied this afternoon with spring fishing in mind.
Tube. 2 inch copper slipstream
Thread. 14/0 white
Tag fluo green glo brite
Tail, fluo yellow crystal hair
Rear Bod: in stages: body silver lite brite
palmered first with yellow cock hackle
ribbed first with silver holo tinsel
palmered second with orange cock hackle
ribbed second with silver oval tinsel.
Front body: holographic silver litebrite palmered with black cock hackle ribbed with silver oval tinsel.
Wing in stages.
Stage1: sunburst marble fox tied fatback style, with silver holo angel hair throughout.
Stage2: Longer slimmer sunburst marble fox with all underfur removed tied in normally, with sunburst angel hair, pearl mirror flash, and silver angel hair throughout.
Stage 3: comb both wings together to blend materials.
Stage4: Long black silver fox with rainbow angel hair.
Stage 5: Black Schlappen hackle
Stage 6: Black monkey hair with rainbow angel hair and 4 strands on peacock herl over.
First hackle: Orange/peacock schlappen badger feather
cheeks Flou yellow JC Long
second hackle Badger hackle from outside of Flou yellow JC cape.
Head black.
it may seem like a lot of effort in the wing, but trust me tying the wing in this manner, using many layers starting short and wide, getting longer and slimmer, really will bring your fly to life in the water. It also helps to keep the wing out of the way of the hooks.
I hope you like it
It looks very gawdy out of the water, but this one has just been for a test swim in the burn by my house, and it looks simply amazing in the water. Definately one for Martins underwater camera.
Dave.
