Is there a right or wrong way to put a Double Hook in the vice?
Many SBS's and Videos seem to show the nearest (i.e. the left hand one as you look down the Hook from the eye) leg of the hook being put in the Vice whereas I have always tied Doubles with the farway leg in the Vice.
Or does it make not a jot of difference?

Interesting question TB, I am the same as you, farside hook in the vice, the hook is better placed for winding materials etc that way round.

I was just thinking that just now, when I was "tying" some flees up for tomorrow. I as a matter of fact stick the far away hook in the vice. Is there a right or wrong way to put a Double Hook in the vice? tweedbunnet

Furthest hook in the vice every time, less likey to catch the thread on the hook points when tying in tags and stuff if you can see the point of the exposed hook in front of you at all times.
Also when using salars especially, my vice sits at a nicer angle without making loads of adjustments, keeping the hook level, where, as if you put the other hook point into the vice, it will sit at a completely different angle, which on some vices is not a problem, but with others it can be a pain.

I tied a few flies last night after posting on this thread. I realised then that I have the furthest away hook in the vice, the opposite of what I posted!

i didn't used to have a set method but was tying up a pattern of an evening with the spare hook of the double on my side of the vice rather than the far side and reached across to get something ending up with said hook point in my arm past the barb. I always put the nearest point in the vise and the spare on the far side.
