I'm visiting the Tweed at Tweedswood, at the end of September ( mostly to learn how to cast better ). But as I may as well be dragging something useful at the end of my line:-
What flies would you guys think are essential at that time of year, how big and tied on what, copper tube, bottles, singles doubles etc.

All depends on river heights, but at that time of year its usually dropped in a bit and warmed up, so a few trebles #6,8 and even a #10 wont go wrong, a wee sink tip or even a full floater would be the line I reckon. as to flees posh tosh, cascade, and a Willie gunn you will no go far wrong.

Simon
Defintely take some Green Butt Stoat's Tails and Silver Stoats in sizes 10 and 12 ED trebles.
Use when river is lowish or in shallower pools but bigger and more colurful patterns when river is 9" or more on the gauge.
Also pray for a moderate drop of rain before your visit
