Code p's are good solid hooks, but again, the prices are going up.
Sprite doubles are a good bit cheaper than the p codes and almost identical to them.
I've been using them for a few seasons for my own flies and had no problem with the hook hold. They tie a nice fly and have a good weight to them.

If you like trebles you can get 25 Talon trebles for £1.99 plus postage on Ebay. They look similar to VMC or Partridge X2B's. Don't know how strong they are though.
Also there are other double hooks on Ebay

be very wary of cheap doubles on e-bay.
I have tried most of them at some stage or another, and most have very weak welds, you could sraighten out the points with your fingers, or bend them in or outwards.
Talon hooks for me are a bit too big and heavy, and don't keep there point very well.
I have found a trout double in 10's and 12's that is very similar to a salar double, but unfortunatelyt doesn't come in bigger sizes.
would probably be ok for summer patterns. Have ordered a few to try out.
Also Ken Sawada doubles, which are a good bit cheaper than salar or loop, although can still be pricey in some places. the points are super sharp and the hooks very strong, you can however get hooks with flawed welds or bumps on the shank so check the box befor you buy.

i used to use the kamasan trebles all the time were really good hooks, again the price rocketed. think it was B380's B990's trebles were £3.90 per 10 don't know what they are now. The doubles on Ebay are reasonably priced, if you don't fancy Ebay I'm sure they are available elsewhere online.

the hook is the most important part of your gear why use cheap hooks and risk loosing the fish of a lifetime The question is not so much about using cheap hooks. it's reliable quality hooks at a reasonable price. Salars are crazy priced now, and as plenty of people will agree, loose more than there fair share of fish , due to the silly inturned points not gripping. The difference in a pack of salars now is crazy, with the shape of the hooks varying, the welds being bumpy at the bends, the eyes being different sizes and shapes, and the hook points being all over the place. I bought over 2000 salars last year and loads of them ended up getting sent back, due to being flawed. For the price they are charging now I would expect a perfect hook every time. Loop hooks seem to be better for consistant quality, but again, the price of the hooks are getting crazy. and we all know that it's down to greed of the manufacturers, and not the cost of production going by the speed of the price hikes

Has anyone used Mustad DL71UBLN Double Salmon Hooks?
I came across them recently on the web and them seem a nice looking hook at a reasonable price of £6.99 for 25.
