I have yet to tie one but a simple Silver bodied Tube with Purple Bucktail, Purple Hackle and JC eyes impressed me earlier this year when it did the business for its owner on the Tweed albeit as a Waddington.
I believe it also a popular fly on the Spey and see no reason why it wouldn´t catch a fish on the Tay.
I also like the looks of the Sir Richard and the Posh Tosh in Yellow or Orange. These are also the types of fly I carry and would use on the Tay if nothing else was doing
Finally, what about the Garry or one of its modern flashier variants? It is a good fly also.
I am also interested why you rate the Black Francis as a Spring fly as that would not have occurred to me as a choice.

I have been looking at this and thought straight way with my five Tubes for the TAY in Spring time:
1. A tube of cyanide 2. A tube of Cymag 3. A tube of Gelegnite 4+5. Pat and Mick with a net I dont think any of them will work though LOL!

Fished deep in slower moving pools, is an absolute deadly fly on the right day.

Cheers for that. Would not have occurred to me to use it in the Spring which shows how much I have yet to learn
