lord knows only knows where he gets the claret squirrel.
i would go either or with the rear hackle and tail. A long hackle would give it an irish shrimp feel

A long hackle would give it an irish shrimp feel I reckon a short dense hen hackle might look quite nice with the profile of the fly. or as you say maybe a long cock hackle would work well a la irish shrimpy stylee. Will be tying a load of variations tomorrow anyway so will post some pics to see what you all think

Tony- the shrimp dressing is as the hairwing but with the addition of the rear hackle and tail. The tail is quite dense

Ya Dancer.. Just found a root beer, or claret calf tail in my box I use for the francis, would look the dogs in the hairwing A claret squirrel tail would still be very nice though ;D
