How have you had best results with Sunrays/Collies/Monkeys? Does water temperature/freshness of the fish/time of year/depth have any particular influence in how you fish them?

Voted pulling them fast When the water temperature is below 42f i would cast square and let them swing, as the temperature rises i start to vary from figure of 8 to slow pulls until the the temperature reaches 54f then it hell for leather like a fiddlers elbow ;D

In the cold spring, I fish as UG notes above. A good steady swing letting the wing move. From approx mid-Apr on, I tend to stick my rod under my arm and us both hands to draw the fly back at different speeds but, importantly, evenly and consistantly.
I seldom use a full floater and/or a plastic tube. My main summer/back-end set-up comprises of an intermediate and a Monkey tied on an intermediate tube. Although you don't get the incredible vision response as you do with a full floater, the % of takes/fish landed is mush better.
A long-winged fly fished deep in the spring may be the most successful approach in recent years.
