A small 2 pounder from the Ogmore,the only pull in the session.

With a strong south west wind blowing up the river from the sea last night the conditions were not great to say the least, with the wind in your face and waves breaking.

Fishing a Cortland blue and a short leader of 12Ib maxima and an O.T.J. ally tube I started to fish the pool down.
After a few casts and lifting the line out for another cast the line came to a stop.
Lifting the rod up a fish moved off up thinking it was a schoolie as I was watching them earlier cutting through the fast water over the pebbles, which was great to see.

I gained some line in and the rod bent over into a more pleasing arc, thinking it may have been a 2 pounder now and applied more pressure to land the the fish.

Now the rod was bent even more and the fish kiting across the river and not showing at all.
A change of direction and the fish headed down river still not showing but dogging away on the bottom of the river and using all of its power with the river.
At least 15 minutes had passed now and the fish was about 15 yards below me and in the shallows with the water being displaced by the movement of the fish.

The rod was now bent from the butt and I was holding it fast, you could feel the fish tiring, the only problem now was the dozen of so swans below the fish as it was trying to swim through them and the thought of the line tangling up on there legs so I applied even more pressure.The gye net was ready now and I still had not seen the size of the fish.
Pulling back and any time now I was going to have it, all went slack and the tube fly went passed my head.
Standing in the river I could only guess that I lost a good size double.
